Educational Visit to Central Cattle Breeding and Dairy Farm

IAAS Bangladesh IUBAT organized an educational field visit to the Central Cattle Breeding and Dairy Farm (CCBDF) with the objective of providing participants with practical exposure to modern livestock management, breeding technologies, and sustainable animal production systems.

The visit commenced with an introductory session at the Administration Section, where Md. Mostafizur Rahman, Animal Production Officer, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the history, achievements, organizational structure, and operational activities of the farm. The session provided participants with an overview of the farm’s contribution to livestock development in Bangladesh.

Participants then visited the Breeding Section, where Runu Rani Roy, Animal Breeder, explained the management of breeding stock and highlighted the significance of genetic improvement programs in enhancing livestock productivity and sustainability. Md. Saiful Islam, BUYAR Officer, also shared valuable insights into the farm’s procurement activities, buyer operations, and livestock trade management practices.

The educational tour continued at the Veterinary Section, where Dr. Ashraf Hossain, Veterinary Surgeon, introduced participants to the farm’s veterinary healthcare services. The session focused on disease prevention, animal welfare, herd health management, and modern veterinary practices employed to ensure the well-being and productivity of livestock. The final segment of the visit took place at the Bangladesh Central Artificial Insemination Laboratory. Dr. Rashed, AI Section Officer, demonstrated the processes and techniques of artificial insemination and explained its vital role in genetic improvement, breed development, and increased cattle productivity across the country.

The field visit provided participants with valuable firsthand experience in livestock production systems and exposed them to contemporary breeding and reproductive technologies. Through interactions with professionals and observation of practical operations, participants enhanced their understanding of sustainable animal production, livestock management, and the technological advancements shaping the future of the livestock sector in Bangladesh.
