On August 24, IAAS Bangladesh PSTU ran a public awareness campaign as part of National Fisheries Week 2025, focused on native fish conservation and the damage caused by illegal fishing nets. Members distributed leaflets among local fishermen and community members, covering why native fish matter — not just for food and nutrition, but for local economies, culture, and biodiversity. Local fishermen shared their own accounts of how illegal net use has visibly reduced fish reproduction and catch over the years. Their firsthand observations added weight to what the leaflets were saying. Native fish species are disappearing quietly, and campaigns like this are one way to make that visible before the damage becomes irreversible.
